The symposium in a nutshell

The 14th Finnish-Russian Radio Astronomy Symposium will be held in Tuorla (University of Turku), Finland, on 5–7 September 2018.

Topics covered in the symposium revolve around radio astronomy in Finland and Russia, including (but not limited to!) active galaxies, microquasars, the Sun and stellar activity, Very Long Baseline Interferometry, and radio astronomy education.

Meeting site

Science Centre Tuorla (University of Turku)

The meeting will take place in the Tuorla observatory, nowadays operating as the Science Centre Tuorla of the University of Turku.

Travel

Getting there (from Helsinki or Turku)

Tuorla is 15 km from the city of Turku, and 150 km from Helsinki. From Russia you can fly or take the train to Helsinki (several trains daily from St. Petersburg), and continue with train to Turku. There will be a minibus from Turku railway station on Tuesday night.

Accommodation

Hostel Tuorla

Accommodation takes place in the Hostel Tuorla, a short walking distance from the meeting site at the Science Centre Tuorla. Special prices are available for participants from Tue 4.9. until Sun 9.9. Participants coming from outside the Turku area are encouraged to arrive already in Tuesday.

Programme

Symposium, "astronomical brewery", smoke sauna, and more!

Scientific programme fills the days, and the nights are reserved for socialising and excursions to local places of interests. Official program begins around 9:00 on Wednesday and ends around 16:00 on Friday.
