  • 23.6.2010 A project job position in the VLBI team at Metsähovi. We are looking for an under graduate or graduate student with a background in the field of computer science and/or electronics (FPGA). Job would start in September or later. See announcement for detailed information.

Dr. Silke Britzen from Max−Planck − Institut fur Radioastronomie, Germany, is the opponent at the public defense.
  • 08.11.2009 Metsähovi Radio Observatory takes part in the International Year of Astronomy (IYA 2009) session organized by the IVS community with a special astrometric observation with a record of stations participants. The primary goal is to observe 295 ICRF2 defining sources in a single 24-hour session.

  • 27.04.2009 The European Space Agency (ESA) will launch the Planck satellite in May and Metsähovi Radio Observatory is extensively involved in the project. See the TEKES press release for more details on the satellite project and the Finnish contribution.
  • 03.04.2009 Metsähovi Radio Observatory takes part in the 100 hours e-VLBI experiment. The 100 hours of astronomy demonstration will be held on Friday April 3rd and Sunday April 5th.   • 05.02.2009 Radio astronomers from JIVE institue in collaboration with the Metsähovi Radio Observatory detect water maser emission from the Saturnian system. The discovery of the water maser emission coming from the clouds of water vapour in the Saturnian system is published in this week's issue of A & A. JIVE press release and Metsähovi press release.

  • 24.04.2008 This week's Nature journal (vol. 452, 24 April 2008, Marscher A. P. et al. "The Inner Jet of an Active Galactic Nucleus as Revealed by a Radio-to-Gamma-ray Outburst") published the discovery made by a team of astronomers including two Metsähovi scientists, Dr. Anne Lähteenmäki and Dr. Merja Tornikoski.
