• 23.6.2010 A project job position in the VLBI team at Metsähovi. We are looking for an under graduate or graduate student with a background in the field of computer science and/or electronics (FPGA). Job would start in September or later. See announcement for detailed information.
• 28.5.2010 Elina Nieppola's dissertation on the subject "Synchrotron emission from blazar jets − energy distributions and radio variability" at Helsinki University of Technology (Espoo), Otakaari 5A, Auditorium S4 at 12 o'clock. Dr. Silke Britzen from Max−Planck − Institut fur Radioastronomie, Germany, is the opponent at the public defense.
• 08.11.2009 Metsähovi Radio Observatory takes part in the International Year of Astronomy (IYA 2009) session organized by the IVS community with a special astrometric observation with a record of stations participants. The primary goal is to observe 295 ICRF2 defining sources in a single 24-hour session.
• 14.5.2009 Planck launch at 15:12 CEST, 16:12 Finnish local time from Kourou, French Guiana. Watch the launch video.
• 8.5.2009 Talvikki Hovatta's dissertation on the subject "Radio Variability of Active Galactic Nuclei: Analysis of Long-term Multifrequency Data" at Helsinki University of Technology (Espoo), Otakaari 5A, Auditorium S4 at 12 o'clock. Professor Thierry Courvoisier, Geneva University, Switzerland, is the opponent at the public defense.
• 27.04.2009 The European Space Agency (ESA) will launch the Planck satellite in May and Metsähovi Radio Observatory is extensively involved in the project. See the TEKES press release for more details on the satellite project and the Finnish contribution.
• 03.04.2009 Metsähovi Radio Observatory takes part in the 100 hours e-VLBI experiment. The 100 hours of astronomy demonstration will be held on Friday April 3rd and Sunday April 5th. There will be realtime VLBI observations whose results can be instantaneously seen via the internet. Follow it at Expres 100 hours demo and Official web page.
• 05.02.2009 Radio astronomers from JIVE institue in collaboration with the Metsähovi Radio Observatory detect water maser emission from the Saturnian system. The discovery of the water maser emission coming from the clouds of water vapour in the Saturnian system is published in this week's issue of A & A. JIVE press release and Metsähovi press release.
• 29.01.2009 Summer job positions at Metsähovi Radio Observatory. We are looking for 1-2 summer students to work in Metsähovi in summer 2009 (early start in May is possible) mainly as observers in the AGN and/or Solar research team. • 15.01.2009 Metsähovi takes part in the 24 hour of e-VLBI experiment. This demonstration will be held during the opening ceremony of the International Year of Astronomy held in Paris on January 15th/16th at the UNESCO headquarters. Expres IYA2009 and Metsähovi press release.

• 30.6.2008  TKK/Metsähovi radio observatory made a world record in transferring radio signal over internet (in Finnish)
• 23.5.2008 Ilona Torniainen's dissertation on the subject 'Multifrequency studies of gigahertz-peaked spectrum sources and candidates' at Helsinki University of Technology (Espoo) Auditorium S4 at 12 o'clock. Professor Bruce Partridge, Haverford College, USA, is the opponent at the public defense.

• 24.04.2008 This week's Nature journal (vol. 452, 24 April 2008, Marscher A. P. et al. "The Inner Jet of an Active Galactic Nucleus as Revealed by a Radio-to-Gamma-ray Outburst") published the discovery made by a team of astronomers including two Metsähovi scientists, Dr. Anne Lähteenmäki and Dr. Merja Tornikoski.
